Description and benefits
The HDT hot tapping machine is used to drill under-pressure and pressure-free pipes through any type of saddle, from 1″ to 2″ and through OPTIMQ PE32 and PE50 outlet hot tapping saddles. It is designed to be operated with a battery-powered drill. We recommend using the Stanley FatMax 4.0Ah drill or a similar one.
The OPTIMQ HDT hot tapping machine is a very compact tool with a weight of 1.2 kg and a shaft length of 236mm which allows drilling through a large variety of saddles. The movement of the shaft is made through a direct action of the operator, thus allowing for a quick and controlled drilling, which at the same time provides for a longer duration of the hole cutters.

The body of the HDT tapping machine is fitted with two quick-connects to connect the manometer and the drain valve used to extract the shavings caused by the drilling. It is also easy to make a hydraulic test before the drilling, using a pressure pump connected by means of the ½” M fitting of the HDT device.
The HDT hot tapping machine is available in two versions: the basic version and the version fitted with a manometer and a valve for the extraction of shavings.
The drill bit and the hole cutters are fastened to the shaft by means of couplings:
- ½’’ UNF for 1” and 1¼” Starrett hole cutters
- 5/8’’ UNF for 1½ ” and 2” Starrett hole cutters
- 15 for PE/PVC hole cutters for Polyethylene and PVC pipes
In connections of more than 1¼” and in networks of more than 5 bars pressure, we recommend keeping the same pressure of the network inside the tapping machine, to avoid a backward movement of the shaft after drilling the pipe.
When drilling with PE/PVC hole cutters, the balance between the network pressure and the pressure inside the tapping machine is achieved by a previous drilling of the pipe with the centre drill or with a pressure pump connected to the body of the drilling device.
